- Be between 18 and 90 years old
- Be in the ICU, awake, and able to communicate clearly
- Have a collapsed lung area (atelectasis) and need oxygen or a ventilator
- Not be pregnant
- Not have a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) or a serious chronic lung disease that requires home oxygen
