Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for at least 48 hours.
  • You have a collapsed lung area (atelectasis) confirmed by a chest X-ray, CT scan, or ultrasound.
  • You are not pregnant (if applicable).
  • You are not very overweight (BMI under 40).
  • You do not have a severe spine or chest deformity, or a condition that affects your diaphragm (the muscle that helps you breathe).
