Who can take part

  • You are between 20 and 90 years old.
  • You are in the ICU and have a breathing tube that will likely stay in for at least 2 more days.
  • You have one of these lung conditions: ARDS (severe lung inflammation), atelectasis (collapsed lung), or VAP (pneumonia from the ventilator).
  • You agree to take part and sign a consent form.
  • You are not pregnant, and do not have a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) or severe chronic lung disease needing oxygen at home.
