CT scan for grading esophageal varices in cirrhosis

MDCT Esoghageal Varices

Who can take part

  • You have cirrhosis (liver scarring) and high blood pressure in the liver (portal hypertension).
  • You are scheduled for an upper endoscopy (a camera test to look at your esophagus).
  • You do not have severe kidney problems or an allergy to contrast dye (used in CT scans).
  • You have not had a previous endoscopy with banding or sclerotherapy (treatments for varices).
  • You are not pregnant, and you have not had a TIPS procedure (a tube in the liver).
