Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have been diagnosed with cirrhosis (advanced liver scarring) based on clinical, lab, or imaging evidence
  • You are scheduled to have an upper endoscopy (a camera procedure down your throat)
  • You have not had previous endoscopic treatment for esophageal varices (enlarged veins)
  • You do not have certain prior surgeries or interventions (shunt procedures, TIPS, or splenectomy)
  • You are able to provide good-quality ultrasound images (not severely limited by obesity or fluid buildup)
