Who can take part
- You have at least 3 stroke risk factors (like high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, or high cholesterol).
- You are scheduled for surgery on a tumor in the abdomen (such as stomach, liver, colon, bladder, or uterus) that will last longer than 2 hours.
- Your physical health is classified as ASA II or III (meaning you have mild to serious health issues, but not severe disability).
- A doctor will monitor your blood pressure with a small tube in your artery before and during surgery.
- You do not have severe heart disease, advanced liver problems, or a recent stroke (within the last 3 months).
- You do not need dialysis, and you have no history of serious mental illness, epilepsy, Parkinson's, or severe speech/hearing/vision problems.
