Who can take part

  • You are 60 years or older.
  • You have been diagnosed with high blood pressure for at least 6 months and take medication for it.
  • You are having a planned (non-emergency) surgery that requires general anesthesia.
  • You are classified as ASA II (mild systemic disease by your anesthesiologist).
  • You are not severely dehydrated or allergic to dexmedetomidine.
  • You do not have uncontrolled high blood pressure or a history of difficult breathing tube placement.
