Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are having elective or urgent surgery (not emergency for major bleeding).
- Your hemoglobin (a part of your blood that carries oxygen) is low (less than 130 g/L) before surgery.
- During surgery, your hemoglobin drops to 100 g/L or lower.
- You have not had a heart attack or unstable chest pain in the last 6 weeks, and you are not having heart surgery or a liver transplant.
