Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for non-heart surgery with general or spinal anesthesia
  • Your doctor plans to place an arterial line (a small tube in an artery) to monitor your blood pressure continuously
  • You have a pulse that can be felt in your wrist
  • Your blood pressure is similar in both arms (not more than 10 points difference)
  • You do not have a dialysis shunt in your arm or an arm amputation
