Who can take part

  • Your child is between 1 and 7 years old
  • Your child is scheduled for groin surgery like hernia or hydrocele repair as an outpatient (no overnight stay)
  • Your child will receive a nerve block (TAP or pudendal block) as part of the anesthesia
  • Your child is generally healthy (ASA score 1 or 2)
  • You (the parent or legal guardian) can read, write, and speak French, and you give consent
  • Your child has no allergies to local anesthetics or the study drug (dexmedetomidine), and no heart or clotting problems
