Who can take part

  • You must be an adult (18 or older).
  • If you are a healthy volunteer, you have no chronic illnesses and have not been in the hospital in the last 2 years.
  • If you are in the sepsis group, you have a confirmed infection and high scores on two sepsis severity tests (qSOFA ≥ 2 and SOFA ≥ 2).
  • If you are in the non-septic severe control group, you have a suspected or confirmed infection and a SOFA score of exactly 1.
  • You are not pregnant, do not have a mental illness, and are not a vulnerable adult.
