Head massage in a head-down position for headache relief

This trial tests a simple, non-drug technique (carotid sinus massage while lying with your head lower than your body) to see if it can relieve headaches. If you have a migraine, tension headache, or mixed headache that started in the last day, you may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • You are 16 years old or older.
  • You have a migraine, tension-type headache, or mixed headache.
  • Your current headache started within the last 24 hours.
  • You do not have any known problems with the carotid arteries in your neck (like narrowing or a bruit).
  • You have never had a heart attack, stroke, or conditions like heart failure, irregular heartbeat, or increased pressure in your head.
  • You are not in respiratory distress and do not have congestive heart failure.
