Who can take part

  • You must be a U.S. military veteran.
  • You must have COPD with a breathing test showing an FEV1/FVC ratio less than 0.7 and FEV1 between 30% to 80% of predicted.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) must be under 35.
  • You cannot have conditions that affect walking, like severe back pain, diabetes with nerve damage, or poor leg circulation.
  • You must not need oxygen during rest or exercise, and you cannot take medications that change your mood or energy use.
  • You must get clearance from a doctor after a heart and lung stress test.
