Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma (a type of rectal cancer) that is locally advanced (stage T3 or higher, or has spread to nearby lymph nodes, but not to distant organs).
- You are between 18 and 85 years old.
- You have not had any prior cancer treatment for this rectal cancer (no surgery, radiation, chemo, or immunotherapy).
- Your tumor is located within 15 cm of the anal edge, and you are healthy enough for surgery (ECOG score 0 or 1).
- Your blood tests show adequate organ function (kidney, liver, bone marrow) within specific limits.
