  • 18 years or older
  • Getting intravenous beta-lactam antibiotics through a continuous drip
  • Have a confirmed infection that started in the ICU
  • In the ICU with septic shock (needing medicine to keep blood pressure up and having high lactic acid levels)
  • Able to give informed consent within 72 hours of being admitted
