Who can take part
- You are over 18 years old
- You are currently admitted to an ICU
- Septic shock was diagnosed within 48 hours of ICU admission
- You started medicine to keep blood pressure up (vasopressors) within the first 48 hours
- You had a high lactate level (greater than 2 mmol/L) around the time those blood-pressure medicines started
- A blood sample is available on day 3 or 4 (on lab working days), and you or your family agree to join
