Who can take part
- You had a mini-stroke (TIA) or mild stroke within the past 24 hours that affected one side of your body, but you can still move your arms and legs.
- You have at least a 50% blockage in the carotid artery (the main artery in your neck) on the same side as your stroke symptoms, confirmed by an ultrasound, CT, or MRI.
- You are between 45 and 90 years old.
- You are healthy enough for surgery (not critically ill or with severe heart/lung problems).
- You can have the surgery within 72 hours of your first symptom and agree to follow up for 90 days.
