Who can take part

  • You had a stroke in the main part of your brain's blood supply (middle cerebral artery area) within the last 1 to 28 days.
  • The artery on the same side as the stroke (internal carotid) is more than 50% narrowed.
  • Your current stroke symptoms are mild to moderate — you can get up and walk with some help, and your score on a stroke severity scale is 12 or less.
  • The damaged area of brain tissue is small (no more than one-third of the middle cerebral artery region).
  • You are able to have treatment between 1 and 28 days after your stroke started.
