This trial tests whether a new version of the drug abiraterone (abiraterone acetate II) works as well as the standard version for men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (MCRPC) that has progressed. You may qualify if you have already had one type of hormone therapy or chemotherapy and your cancer is spreading.

Who can take part

  • You are a man 18 years or older.
  • Your cancer is prostate adenocarcinoma (not a rare type like neuroendocrine or small cell cancer).
  • You are on hormone therapy (like Lupron) or had your testicles removed, and your testosterone is at castration levels.
  • Your cancer has gotten worse despite hormone therapy, shown by rising PSA, new tumors, or new bone lesions.
  • You have had only one prior treatment for hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (like enzalutamide or docetaxel) and no abiraterone before.
  • Your blood counts and organ function are within safe limits, and you have no active infections or heart problems.
  • You do not have untreated brain metastases or severe bone problems from cancer.
