Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You have a complete tear of your ACL and this will be your first ACL surgery.
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder and are not taking blood thinners.
  • You do not have other knee ligament injuries, sickle cell disease, or serious liver or kidney problems.
  • You are able to understand the study and give informed consent.

This study tests whether taking tranexamic acid (a medicine that helps prevent bleeding) after total knee replacement can reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers. You would take the medicine for up to 7 days after surgery and answer a few daily questions.
