This study compares two approaches to treat advanced diabetic eye disease (proliferative diabetic retinopathy): injections of faricimab plus laser, versus surgery (vitrectomy) with laser. It is for people with diabetes who need treatment for PDR and still have relatively good vision (20/100 or better) in the affected eye.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You have type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
  • In the study eye, you have proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) that needs treatment, confirmed by a special photo.
  • Your best corrected vision in that eye is 20/100 or better (you can read the big E on an eye chart).
  • You have not had certain eye surgeries or laser treatments in that eye (no prior vitrectomy, no prior extensive laser).
  • You have not had treatment for diabetic macular edema in the last 6 months, or anti-VEGF injections (other than for DME) in the last year.
