Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 60 years old.
  • You have had leg pain for more than 6 weeks, and the leg pain is worse than your back pain.
  • You have tried non-surgical treatments (like physical therapy or medication) and they haven't helped enough.
  • You have had an MRI that shows a disc bulge in your lower back (at L4-5, L5-S1, or S1).
  • You have not had back surgery before.
  • You do not have a large herniated disc that narrows your spine severely, scoliosis (curved spine), a slipped vertebra, or cancer.
  • You do not have nerve damage, a bleeding disorder, or an allergy to local anesthetics or steroids.
