  • You are 45 years old or older
  • You are scheduled for a major elective abdominal surgery that will last at least 2 hours
  • Your doctor plans to place an arterial line (a small tube in an artery to monitor blood pressure continuously)
  • Your doctor plans to place a urinary catheter during surgery
  • You have not had surgery on your urethra or bladder before
