Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 65 years old.
- Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 30 (a healthy weight range).
- You are having planned major abdominal surgery and will go to the intensive care unit (ICU) after.
- Your health status is rated as ASA I, II, or III (generally healthy to moderate health risk).
- You do not have significant heart disease (like coronary artery disease or heart failure), severe kidney disease, an irregular heart rhythm, or pulmonary hypertension.
- You are not pregnant and have not had acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
