Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have cirrhosis of the liver.
  • You have a blood clot in the portal vein that was found within the last 6 months, is causing symptoms, or you are waiting for a liver transplant.
  • You are not currently bleeding or at very high risk of bleeding (for example, no recent major surgery, no large stomach ulcers, no severe varices with red signs).
  • Your liver function is not too poor (Child-Turcotte-Pugh score less than or equal to 10).
  • You do not have liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) or a clot caused by a tumor.
