Who can take part

  • You need a filling or root canal on a lower first or second molar (one of the back chewing teeth) that is otherwise healthy.
  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must be able to speak English and give your consent to join.
  • The tooth opposite the one being treated must be present, pain-free, and strong enough to make contact with the treated tooth when biting.
  • You should not have taken any pain medication in the last 6 hours before the test.
