Who can take part
- You are having a mastectomy that saves your nipple, with immediate breast reconstruction.
- You have invasive breast cancer, DCIS (a very early form), or carry a BRCA gene mutation that increases risk.
- Your nipple and areola (the darker skin around it) must appear healthy and have a low chance of containing cancer cells.
- Your breast size is not too large (roughly a D cup or smaller).
- You are not a heavy smoker (fewer than 20 cigarettes per day).
- You have not had radiation to your chest before, and you don't have inflammatory breast cancer or uncontrolled diabetes.
