Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 79 years old.
  • You had a spontaneous deep brain bleed (in the basal ganglia or thalamus) that is 20 to 50 mL in size.
  • Your symptoms started within 24 hours of your first CT scan.
  • A follow-up CT scan at least 6 hours later shows the bleed has stopped growing (less than 5 mL increase).
  • You have a Glasgow Coma Scale score between 5 and 14 (meaning you are not fully awake but respond to some stimulation).
  • You are not taking blood thinners (like warfarin, apixaban, or clopidogrel) and do not have a bleeding disorder.
