Spinal block safety for infants under 3 months

This study is testing how well and how safely a spinal block (numbing medicine injected into the lower back) works for babies under 3 months old who need certain belly or groin surgeries. It may help avoid general anesthesia for these infants.

Who can take part

  • Your baby is younger than 3 months old.
  • Your baby is scheduled for lower belly surgery (like hernia, hydrocele, or undescended testicle).
  • Your baby is generally healthy (no major health problems).
  • You are willing for your baby to receive a spinal block instead of general anesthesia.
  • Your baby does not have a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning medicine.
  • Your baby does not have an infection where the needle would go in (lower back).
