Who can take part

  • Child must be between 6 and 12 years old
  • Child must be in good overall health (ASA status I or II, meaning no serious medical conditions)
  • Surgery must be on the upper belly with an incision
  • Surgery must take 3 hours or less
  • No allergy to local anesthetic medicines (numbing medications)
  • No infection or skin problems where the nerve block injection would go
