Who can take part

  • Your child is an infant or child having heart surgery with a heart-lung machine
  • Your child has not taken antibiotics, had surgery, or received chemotherapy in the last 8 weeks
  • Your child is not receiving continuous liquid food directly into their stomach before surgery
  • Your child does not have a stomach or bowel condition, or previous bowel surgery (except for a feeding tube placement)
  • Your child does not have liver disease with high liver enzymes or kidney disease requiring dialysis
