This trial tests a new antibiotic, TNP-2092, given as a shot directly into the knee joint for people with a persistent infection after knee replacement. It is for those whose infection is caused by certain bacteria and who are willing to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks.

Who can take part

  • You have a knee replacement that became infected within the first month after surgery, or suddenly within 3 weeks of infection symptoms.
  • The infection is suspected or confirmed to be caused by a type of bacteria called Gram-positive (like staph), including hard-to-treat strains.
  • You are willing to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks to receive the antibiotic shots into your knee joint.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • Your knee implant is well-fixed and you do not have a sinus tract (a tunnel) leading from the implant to the skin.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 34.
