Who can take part

  • You’re at least 18 years old.
  • Your knee prosthesis infection is “acute” (within 90 days of the original surgery) or has started within 4 weeks of symptoms, or it’s a chronic knee infection that can’t be easily removed.
  • The surgery plan is irrigation and debridement—cleaning the joint and keeping the implant in place.
  • The infection involves a germ (organism) that is sensitive to vancomycin—either proven by cultures/tissue tests or by infection markers listed by the study.
  • You can have your wound closed after surgery and you don’t have certain health issues that make the antibiotic unsafe.
