Who can take part
- You are scheduled for a planned (not emergency) chest or belly surgery and will stay in the hospital for at least 2 days after the operation.
- You are able to fill out questionnaires and take part in a program that encourages you to get up and move after surgery.
- You do not have a major mobility problem before surgery, such as needing a wheelchair or having a leg amputated.
- You are not expected to be on strict bed rest for the first 5 days after surgery because of medical reasons.
- You are not expected to need the intensive care unit (ICU) after your operation.
