Who can take part

  • You are having trauma or orthopedic surgery with both general and regional anesthesia.
  • You do not have a pacemaker or take heart medication like cardiac glycosides.
  • You do not have an irregular heartbeat (like atrial fibrillation or heart block).
  • You do not have chronic opioid misuse or take certain drugs like ketamine or clonidine during surgery.
  • You do not have serious nerve damage (autonomic neuropathy).
  • You are able to describe your pain level after surgery and will not be in the ICU.
