Comparing 7 vs 14 days of antifungal treatment for candidemia

This study compares a shorter treatment (7 days) with the standard 14-day treatment for uncomplicated candidemia, a bloodstream infection caused by Candida yeast. If you qualify, you may receive the shorter treatment, which could be just as effective with fewer side effects.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have candidemia (Candida in blood) but no other deep Candida infection.
  • You have not received more than 5 days of antifungal treatment already.
  • You do not have a weakened immune system from HIV, organ transplant, cancer treatment, or low white blood cell counts.
  • Your doctors can remove any infected catheters or devices if present.

Shortened treatment for uncomplicated blood yeast infection

This trial tests whether a shorter course of the antifungal caspofungin (7 days total) is as effective as the usual longer treatment for people with uncomplicated candidemia, a yeast infection in the blood. Participating patients must already be on caspofungin and have shown clear blood cultures for 7 days.
