Baricitinib vs methotrexate for skin tightening in scleroderma

Diffuse Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis

This study tests if baricitinib (a daily pill) is better than methotrexate (a common treatment) at reducing skin tightening in people with a severe type of scleroderma called diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. It may help if your skin is getting tighter and you have been diagnosed in the last 5 years.

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis (scleroderma that affects large areas of skin).
  • Your first non-Raynaud symptom (like skin swelling or pain) started within the last 5 years.
  • Your skin tightness score is at least 10 out of 51, measured by a doctor's exam.
  • You are not on certain other medications like high doses of steroids or mycophenolate mofetil.
  • You do not have serious infections, active tuberculosis, hepatitis B or C, or certain lab test abnormalities.
  • If you could become pregnant, you must use effective birth control during the study and for 28 days after.
