Who can take part

  • You are 60 years or older, or you are between 18 and 60 with a health condition like osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes, or a severe bone break pattern.
  • Your broken thigh bone near the knee is a type that can be fixed with a plate or a nail (your surgeon will decide if this is possible).
  • The fracture happened within the last 14 days and is not part of a very severe open wound or multiple major injuries.
  • You do not have a loose artificial joint, a hip replacement on the same side, or any other injuries to the same leg that would prevent walking.
  • You can understand English or have a translator available, and you are willing to give your consent to participate.
