Who can take part

  • You are over 40 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease using standard criteria.
  • You have had episodes of freezing of gait (feet feeling stuck) in the past month.
  • You have been selected by your doctor to undergo deep brain stimulation surgery on the subthalamic nucleus.
  • You are able to walk without help or a walking aid even when your Parkinson's symptoms are at their worst.
  • You can safely have an MRI scan (no metal implants or other reasons that would make it unsafe).
