Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for elective general surgery (especially liver or bile duct surgery) and will stay in the hospital for at least 4 days after.
  • You have a medium or high risk for cell stress or energy problems in your cells.
  • You have not had surgery in the last 6 months.
  • You do not have a current diagnosis of cancer, chronic inflammation, or a psychiatric or neurological disorder like epilepsy.
  • Your BMI is under 30 (not considered obese).
