Who can take part
- You are 18 or older and scheduled for a planned abdominal, vascular, or chest surgery lasting over 3 hours under general anesthesia
- You must have at least two of these: age over 65, body mass index over 30, low oxygen before surgery, planned lung lobe removal, recent respiratory infection, severe anemia or low albumin, heavy smoking history, lung disease or sleep apnea, heart failure, or clinical frailty
- You cannot take part if you have a blocked nose, skull fracture, or facial injury that would prevent using the nasal oxygen device
- You are not pregnant and can understand the study information and give your consent
- You are able to use the nasal oxygen device after surgery on a regular ward (not needing a higher level of care like intensive care)
