Who can take part

  • You are age 40 or older.
  • You have had heel pain (plantar fasciitis) for at least 3 months with no recent injury or other foot problems.
  • You have not had radiation therapy for cancer before.
  • You have not had a steroid injection in your heel recently.
  • You can safely have an MRI (no metal implants or severe claustrophobia).
  • If you could become pregnant, you are willing to use reliable birth control during the study.

Comparing Treatments for Heel Pain With a Heel Spur

This study compares two treatments for chronic heel pain caused by plantar fasciopathy (inflammation of the tissue on the bottom of your foot). If you have a heel spur, you may receive either a steroid injection or a procedure called radiofrequency ablation (which uses heat to calm the pain). The study will also use ultrasound to see how the tissue changes.
