- You are between 18 and 90 years old.
- You are having major abdominal surgery (either with small cuts or one larger cut) under general anesthesia, and you will be asleep for more than 2 hours.
- You do not have severe blood vessel disease or a significant difference in blood pressure between your arms.
- You are able to have a small tube (arterial line) placed in either arm for monitoring.
- You have no allergies or medical conditions that would prevent the standard anesthesia plan, and you can speak English or French.
