Salt, kidneys, and ertugliflozin in type 2 diabetes

This study tests if changing how much salt you eat affects how the drug ertugliflozin works in people with type 2 diabetes. You would take either the drug or a placebo (a dummy pill) for a short time while following a low- or high-salt diet, to see how your kidneys and blood vessels respond.

Who can take part

  • You have type 2 diabetes and your A1C (average blood sugar over 3 months) is between 6.5% and 10%.
  • You are between 18 and 85 years old.
  • You are overweight or obese, with a BMI over 25.
  • Your kidney function (eGFR) is in the range of 60 to 90, and you have no significant protein in your urine.
  • You are not currently taking an SGLT2 inhibitor or GLP-1 receptor agonist, and you can stop taking NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) if needed.
