Muscle Energy Therapy for Children with Stiff Elbow after Fracture

This study tests a gentle hands-on technique called muscle energy therapy to help children ages 6 to 12 regain elbow movement after a broken arm. It may be a good option if your child's elbow is stiff from a healed fracture and they've been in a cast for at least 4 weeks.

Who can take part

  • Your child is between 6 and 12 years old.
  • Elbow stiffness came from a healed fracture of the upper arm bone near the elbow or forearm bones.
  • Your child's arm was in a cast or splint for at least 4 weeks.
  • Your child's orthopedic doctor has referred them to the study.
  • Your child's elbow feels stiff but still has some 'give' when you try to move it gently (not rock-hard).
  • Your child does not have a torn ligament, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, a bone tumor, previous elbow surgery, or nerve/blood vessel problems.
