Who can take part

  • Your child is between 2 months and 17.5 years old.
  • Your child has a breathing tube (endotracheal tube) for lung failure.
  • Your child is already getting or about to get opioid pain medicine through an IV.
  • Your child is expected to need the breathing machine for at least 2 days (48 hours).
  • Your child does not have certain medical conditions, like active stomach bleeding, liver or kidney problems, or recent heart surgery.
  • Your child is not pregnant and has no serious brain injury (like coma or brain death).
