Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have symptomatic atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) that is not caused by a temporary condition like infection or thyroid problem
  • Your doctor has decided you need imaging of the left atrium before cardioversion, based on standard care guidelines
  • You do not need emergency cardioversion due to very low blood pressure, severe chest pain, or signs of heart failure
  • You have no reason to avoid a CT scan with contrast dye, such as kidney problems (eGFR under 45), an allergy to the dye, pregnancy, or inability to hold your breath for 20 seconds

CT scan study of pulse-field ablation for AF

This study compares CT scans taken before and 3 months after atrial fibrillation ablation to see how pulse-field ablation affects lung tissue compared to radiofrequency.
