Who can take part
- You are between 50 and 80 years old.
- You have severe knee arthritis (end-stage osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, avascular necrosis, or inflammatory arthritis) and need a total knee replacement.
- You have not had any prior knee surgery (including previous knee replacement) on the same knee.
- You do not have severe knee deformity (knock-knee greater than 20 degrees or bow-leg greater than 15 degrees) or instability.
- Your knee can straighten to within 25 degrees (no severe contracture).
- You are not currently having a revision (re-do) of a previous knee replacement.
- You do not have rheumatoid arthritis.
- Your BMI is 35 or lower.
- You do not have a neuromuscular disorder (like Parkinson's or stroke) that affects knee stability or walking.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You do not have major health problems (like heart, lung, liver, kidney, cancer, or uncontrolled infection) that would make surgery risky.
- You have not had drug or alcohol abuse in the past 6 months.
