Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older
  • You are scheduled for minimally invasive (keyhole or robotic) surgery for stomach or bowel cancer
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 30
  • You do not have chronic pain or regularly take strong painkillers like opioids or NSAIDs
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners that affect clotting
  • You have no memory or thinking problems (such as dementia), and no recent stroke
