Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older
  • You are having heart surgery
  • You have a chest tube that will be removed in the cardiac intensive care unit
  • You do not have severe chronic lung disease (like advanced COPD or interstitial lung disease)
  • You have never had a pneumothorax (collapsed lung) before this chest tube removal
  • You are not on a breathing machine at the time of screening
